This course aims to develop an advanced level of academic communication through the formulation of research questions on linguistic and cultural topics, using appropriate research methods and critical thinking skills. Students utilize a variety of information sources to investigate, organize, and analyze the information. Taught in Japanese.
This course is complementary to our Capstone course. In it, it helps us prepare for our Capstone projects by giving us a space to figure out our ideas and what exactly we wish to research. It also helps us prepare by showing us what needs to be done to be ready capstone. We started creating our surveys in this course as well as doing our initial research into our subjects. In this course I chose to study fandom spaces and planned to look at the differences between online fandom spaces between Japan and America as well as in-person fandom spaces, such as conventions. Obviously, my research evolved as I got deeper into the capstone process, but this course laid the groundwork for it. For evidence on how this course satisfies various MLOs, please refer to my Capstone Project page.
